Sony’s new console will officially arrive on November 19, 2020 in France, a week after the USA and Japan. It will be released in two versions: the Digital Edition at € 399 and the Standard Edition with a 4K Blu-ray player at € 499.

We will recap everything there is to know for the release of the console, from accessories to the games that will accompany the launch of the console through the future of the next-gen.

The PlayStation 5, in short!

This is the new console from PlayStation.

It is more powerful, more efficient and offers faster loading times than the PS4. A new controller (the DualSense), an SSD for storing games, 4K graphics going up to 120 frames per second, all in an imposing console (you will have to provide space in your living room).

There are two versions of the PlayStation 5 and they are technically identical except that the Digital Edition does not have a Blu-Ray drive. It can only be used with games downloaded from the PS Store.

The PS5 will be backward compatible with the PS4 games catalog and it embeds the PlayStation ecosystem (PSNow and PSPlus).

Exclusive launch games

The PlayStation 5 will be accompanied by 6 exclusive games for its launch, at varying prices. The official price of the games therefore goes from 69.99 € to 79.99 €.

  • Astro’s Playroom (Studio Japon) – free PS5
  • Demon’s Souls (Bluepoint Games / Studio Japon) – 79,99€
  • Destruction All Stars (Lucid Games / XDEV) – 79,99€
  • Godfall (Counterplay Games) – 79,99€
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (Insomniac Games) – 59,99€
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Mile Morales Ultimate Edition (Insomniac Games) – 79,99€
  • Sackboy A Big Adventure (Sumo Digital / XDEV) – 69,99€

Note that several games will also be released on PS4 ultimately despite the communication previously made by PlayStation indicating that the games would be exclusive to the PS5. This is the case with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy A Big Adventure which will therefore be available at the same time on PS4 and PS5.

Accessories for the PlayStation 5

The console will at the same time be accompanied by several accessories that are already available for pre-order. As a reminder, the DualShock 4 will be compatible with PS4 games on PS5, but they will not work with PS5 games. You will need to get a second DualSense if you want to play with others at home.

Here too, it seems that the price of accessories is higher than those of the previous generation: DualShock 4 (59.99 € + 10 €), Gold wireless headset (89.99 € + 10 €), VR camera (39 , € 99 + € 20) and Remote control (€ 24.99 + € 5).

The novelty of the PlayStation 5 is its DualSense controller which embeds some interesting features and which the excluded PS5 should take advantage of: Haptic effect, Adaptive triggers, Touchpad (new version compared to the DualShock 4), Speaker, Integrated microphone , USB-C port, Built-in battery

PlayStation exclusives in the future

PlayStation has unveiled several exclusive games that will be released in the near future.

  • Deathloop (PC, PS5) – Q2 2021 (Disponible ultérieurement sur Xbox Series X|S)
  • Final Fantasy XVI (PC, PS5) (Disponible ultérieurement sur Xbox Series X|S)
  • Kena: Bridge of the Spirits (PC, PS4, PS5) – Q1 2021

In conclusion

Sony has unveiled a clean line-up that should please everyone to accompany the release of the PlayStation 5 with various games (adventure, racing or platform games). The regular version of the console comes out for the same price as Microsoft’s Xbox Series X, while the Digital Edition costs $ 100 less. Will these 100 euros be enough to attract players to all digital, we will have the answer in the coming months.

The September 16 video added God of War to games coming in the future, an already interesting list as Ratchet and Clank and Horizon Forbidden West are also slated for 2021.

On the other hand, we have witnessed a flashback to the original communication from Sony since some PS5 exclusives will still be released on PS4 (although this was a strong argument in the duel of Xbox / PlayStation philosophy). Good news for players who will not be able to afford the PS5 upon its release.

Another message did not go unnoticed, that of the prices of games and accessories. If the consoles were announced at the prices we expected, accessories and games saw their prices increase (by 10 € for games) between the previous gen and the arrival of the PS5. Several publishers had already announced wanting to increase the price of games, but this is a point that is not yet confirmed (or denied) on the side of the Xbox Series X | Xbox Series X|S.

tradWe were waiting for the response to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, the subscription on which games developed by members of Xbox Game Studios are available on the day of their release, but it seems that PlayStation has no plans for the moment to launch in this adventure. The announcement of the PS Plus Collection is a step forward, but there are many more to offer a service comparable to the competition.

Ditto for the Xbox All Access offer, the Japanese giant did not want to make a pack for its Digital version by offering a console + PSNow subscription bundle.

We will award a bad point for the management of pre-orders. During the official communication in July, we were told that we would not be caught off guard when the pre-orders opened and they finally started at the end of the PS5 event in a magnificent bazaar. We hope that it will remain an anecdote and that everyone can buy their console to put it in their living room. Looks like Sony has planned more stock than the PS4 when it launches, which is good news for gamers again.
